Hi Reader, The joys of working with technology and bad wifi. Much of what I wrote in this week's email was drafted over with unfinished content. Whoops! Guess the jet lag was worse than I thought. Delete the previous disaster of an email and read this instead. I was away last week for some much needed downtime with family. But while these moments are good, I found myself struggling to keep a consistent routine. If you also experience this, you're not alone! ~70% of people struggle with keeping a routine during the holidays. Here’s how I found ways to stay consistent. Plan Ahead Find a gym, yoga studio, or other fitness studio you can pay a drop in, go for a run or walk in the park. Heck, you can even rip out 100 pushups, squats, lunges, and core exercises in a small space. Admittedly, I used to really struggle with this part, but now I make it a priority. Get Moving Early I found it easier to get a workout in early. Usually gatherings/plans start later in the day, so most likely no one may be looking for you. Also offering to make store runs to pick up things can help give you that much needed excuse to step out. Plus, getting a good workout in early can help with food choices later in the day. Prioritize Your Needs I used to care what people think- now I don’t. Put your needs first and don’t be afraid to get a workout in or prioritize a good meal. Early on, I remember telling my wife I felt that it would be perceived that I was anti-social or rude. Then I realized its usually worse in our heads than in reality. And if people really get bothered, trust me they'll get over it. While you may not be able to control the entire menu, offer to bring a couple prepared dishes of your own. This will help provide healthier options to eat during gatherings. Listen, my wife's family doesn't even make anything that resembles the color green. So every year I have to get creative on how to introduce something without upsetting the apple cart. This year the brussel sprouts with pancetta were a hit- phew! Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Sometimes you may just have to make the best of what you have. Focus on proteins, veggies and fruits. And if that is even a problem, pack a good protein powder and greens mix to get in the essentials. For protein I use Naked Goat Whey For greens powder I use Dr. Mercola's Organic Fermented Greens Progress > Perfection A day of less than optimal movement and eating isn’t going to ruin your progress. Chances are you have built up a routine, a discipline. One day is not going to destroy your hard work- I promise. And honestly, if you just get in 8-10K steps you're ahead of 95% of people. To the continued pursuit of optimal health, wealth and happiness, Rich NEW EBOOK ALERT!
