Hi Reader, ​ I believe the future of HEALthcare is Self-Care. ​ In my opinion this is the only way to truly heal yourself and control your health for the long term. ​ According to the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the global wellness economy reached an all time high in 2023 at $6.3 TRILLION! What's even more crazy? The wellness market is expected to grow to $9T by 2028. ​ ​ People are becoming more and more interested in ways to improve their health. More importantly they are taking an active preventative approach. ​ Allopathic/Western Medicine is Failing Us Let's call it what it is- people are becoming tired of taking medications with subpar outcomes, unwanted side effects, and not getting to the root cause of illness. People have lost some, or all, faith in the medical system and have become empowered to be the lead champion in their health. Unfortunately, allopathic doctors do not educate on lifestyle and food as medicine. To no fault of their own, it's not how 21st century medicine model works. If they are lucky, they will receive ~6hrs of nutrition during their medical education. The traditional patient journey is a never ending chase of shortcuts and bandaids leading to trial and error of medications, combo therapy, and ultimately multiple medications for life. Symptom management and the short cut approach just continues the hamster wheel of dis-ease suffering. People are realizing they do not want to be on medications for life. They crave more- leading to empowerment to take a proactive approach to their health. ​ Functional and Integrative Medicine Functional and integrative practices have been on a steep rise. If you are unfamiliar, these types of care factor in a holistic approach to treating individuals, getting to root-cause of their diseases, and leaning hard into prevention. Lifestyle behaviors, nutrition/food as medicine, TCM, exercise, stress management, relationships, epigenetics, precision diagnostic testing, supplementation, and even wearable data. Patients are seeking answers. They are looking for proven and sustainable ways to improve their health without the risk of side effects. They want to control their environment and outcomes. Remember, its not until the early 20th century where we saw a huge shift to allopathic medicine and the use of pharmaceutical products. Wellness practices are not new. Some of the earliest ancient healing practices (TCM/Ayurveda) date back to as early as 3,000 B.C. Many of the core principles are used today as the foundation for integrative and functional practices. ​ Science 2.0 What we once thought was the case is no longer true and science has caught up with a new fresh perspective on health. Our brains are malleable. Genetics do not determine our fate. We are not programmed to be sick. Dis-eases are not random. Food, movement and nature are medicine. AND...most diseases are PREVENTABLE! ​ Our Systems Are Broken Unless you have been living under a rock, it's clear our systems are f*$%ed! I plan to expand here in future newsletters, but all of these systems are completely broken. Big Ag Big Food Healthcare Big Pharma Education Water Energy ​ Consumer Demand As mentioned above, there is a rise across the board for MORE. More access to health and wellness brands, solutions, gyms, wellness programs, better foods, health tech, holistic care, preventative medicine, mental health solutions and a ton more. Mental wellness is one of the fastest growing sectors- and for good reason. There are more medications than ever, yet numbers are climbing at alarming rates. Consumers are prioritizing their mental health/stress and looking for more natural ways to sustainably alleviate root causes. I know, I am a broken record. But our modern lifestyles are much to blame here. ​ The Future Technology and science are moving at a rapid pace. I see a world where people will be able to run lab tests, diagnostics, nutritional assessments, movement evaluations, brain function, passive data monitoring and more- all in the comfort of their home. With the power of AI patients could be provided a full proof plan to maximize their health without the presence of a health care provider. ​ BUT! There is also a strong part of me that believes we are revisiting the past to create a new future. Growing our own food. Owning livestock. Cooking our own food. Self regulating and processing stress/emotions. Craving REAL social connections. Using nature to heal ourselves. Prioritize living over working.
